Jane wrote an article on the adventure she had in making a cover for her new Fan Fiction story:

When doing design the wrong way is the right way

Jane really learned what I mean when I say to “come at Art sideways”. She was trying to make her book cover head-on. It was not working out so well. She thought it was, because she wanted it to (understandable after working on it for hours).

I wasn’t sure what was wrong myself but after looking at Trek books, I saw the illusion they were using and explained it to her. As soon as she got it: half-an-hour later a very effective cover that Pops! and screams classic Sci-Fi as well as selling all her messages (like her name that actually shrunk in size).

If your music isn’t working, chances are you are coming at it head-on instead of from the side with the understanding in your heart of what you need to be saying.

The result was a massive step up from where it started. The first attempt was amateurish and simple, while the final version looked like something you’d see in an old second-hand bookshop 🙂
